Denture Realignment

You may eventually need to make adjustments to your dentures as your mouth adjusts to the appliance. This can include denture realignment in Holladay, Utah. Our dentists and technician can provide denture relines to help you care for your denture properly and enjoy a beautiful smile.

Denture Relines

Over time, your gum tissues will change and the likelihood of your denture becoming loose will increase. We recommend you have your dentures professionally relined every one to two years to keep your appliance secure in your mouth and functioning properly.

There are several types of denture relines:

  • Hard denture reline: Every two years, it is best to have a hard denture reline. Our technicians remove a layer of plastic from the interior surface and fill the denture with putty-like material to create an impression. After, the denture is sent to our lab and adjusted to the new shape of your gum tissue.
  • Soft denture reline: Sore or tender gums can make it hard or impossible to wear dentures, so our denture team can reline your appliance with a material that stays pliable for one to two years. The material is much less likely to cause soreness or irritation. If this is your situation, you may also want to consider a more permanent solution, such as implant-supported dentures.
  • Temporary relines: If your dentures have not been serviced in some time, we may have difficulty taking impressions for a hard or soft reline. A temporary reline may be recommended to help the inflammation in your mouth to subside. These relines are medicated and will help your gums return to a more normal state so that you can receive a new denture or a soft or hard reline.
